Phoenix Children’s Hospital is seeking a Hematopathologist to join the professional staff of the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.  The Hematopathologist must be board-certified or board-eligible in Hematopathology.  The hematopathologist will join a growing diagnostic service with two other staff hematopathologists.  The case mix currently includes approximately 750 peripheral blood smears, 550 bone marrow studies, 100 lymph node evaluations, 400 flow cytometric immunophenotyping studies, and 1450 cytology specimens annually.

The candidate must have special interest in both neoplastic and non-neoplastic hematologic disorders of infants, children, and adolescents.  Additional expertise in cytopathology, primary immune deficiency evaluation, and/or minimal residual disease testing is desirable.  Although not required, candidates with dual subspecialty board certification are encouraged to apply and would have opportunity to continue practice in their desired fields.  The ideal candidate will be an accomplished pediatric hematopathologist with excellence in clinical and scientific knowledge, teaching ability, scholarship, and leadership.  Leadership opportunity is available for the qualified candidate.

The hematopathologist will become a member of the Phoenix Children’s Medical Group and will report to the Division Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.  Professionalism, leadership, interpersonal communication skills, adaptability, and growth mindset are essential.   Active involvement in resident, fellow and medical student teaching through affiliated programs is expected.  Academic appointments are strongly encouraged through our relationships with University of Arizona-Phoenix College of Medicine, Creighton University School of Medicine, and Mayo Clinic School of Medicine.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital main campus, located in the heart of Phoenix, is a full-service, freestanding, tertiary medical center, offering 433 licensed beds, 72 of which are dedicated to intensive care and 33 of which are NICU.  We are a rapidly growing healthcare system, including: the state’s only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center; a full-range of specialty services, including orthopedics, neurosciences, cardiovascular services, neonatology, and cancer and blood disorders; and a depth of high acuity specialties including heart, liver, kidney, bone marrow and stem cell transplantation, an active emergency department, and neonatal and pediatric intensive care units.  Our rapidly expanding network of care will include two new community pediatric hospitals and one new Emergency Department by the end of 2024, yielding a total of 610 licensed beds, making PCH one of the largest pediatric healthcare systems in the country.  Phoenix Children’s is a teaching hospital, leading the way for the next generation of pediatric providers through residency programs and fellowships, and is actively involved in clinical research, dedicating $10 million annually to support research activities.

Phoenix Children’s is Arizona’s only children’s hospital recognized by US News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals, ranking in all 10 specialties in 2021. Phoenix Children’s also consistently ranks on the Becker’s Hospital Review list of the 150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare and was named the 2018 Exceptional Innovator and Business of the Year by the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce.
